BOURBON BLOG
March 29, 2025

In Texas, nothing good ever happens fast. The land takes its time—rivers carve canyons over millennia, oak trees stretch skyward for centuries, wildflowers bloom in their own season, unbothered by schedules or expectations. Lady Bird Johnson understood that. She knew lasting beauty isn’t built overnight—it’s cultivated with patience, care, and an unwavering belief that the land, if given the chance, will take care of us right back.

That belief is bottled up in Lady Bird Bourbon, a spirit as bold and beautiful as the Texas Hill Country itself. This isn’t a bourbon for the impatient. It doesn’t just sit in a barrel and wait—it evolves. It starts as Garrison Brothers Small Batch, aged for four years in new white American oak barrels, soaking up deep caramel and vanilla notes under the relentless Texas sun. Then, just when most bourbons would be finished, Lady Bird’s real journey begins.

For 8-9 months, it’s infused with Burleson’s Texas Wildflower Honey, the nectar of bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, and prairie clover, collected by bees that know Texas better than most people. The result is a cask-strength bourbon known as HoneyDew, rich with the warmth of sunlit fields. But Lady Bird doesn’t stop there. The amber liquid is then transferred into French Cognac XO casks, where it rests for another three years, mellowing, deepening, and taking on a complexity that most bourbons never get the chance to achieve. By the time it’s bottled at 114 proof, hand-sealed in prairie purple wax-encased bottles, and ready for the world, it’s something altogether rare—a bourbon with roots, history, and purpose.

April 5, 2025: A Bourbon Worth the Wait

A bourbon this special deserves a proper welcome. That’s why on April 5, 2025, the first 1,000 bottles of this year’s Lady Bird release will be available exclusively at the distillery, starting at 8 AM. First come, first served—because good things don’t last forever, and this bourbon is proof of that.

And the day isn’t just about bourbon. It’s about Texas, conservation, and celebrating the land that made this bottle possible.

For the third year in a row, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is making sure this bourbon does more than just taste good—it gives back. This year’s event features a team of conservation experts dedicated to preserving Texas’ natural beauty. Highlights include a tree planting demonstration with lacy oaks, teaching visitors how to plant and protect native trees, along with a guided meadow walk showcasing a new seed bank project aimed at turning the distillery’s landscape into a thriving wildflower haven—because, as Lady Bird Johnson believed, Texas should always be in full bloom.

The LBJ 100 & A Hill Country Celebration

April 5 isn’t just about bourbon—it’s about celebrating the land the right way. That’s why this year’s release coincides with the LBJ 100 bike race, an event that takes riders through the scenic Texas Hill Country, the very landscapes Lady Bird herself fought to preserve.

After the ride, there’s no better place to celebrate than at the distillery—where the bourbon will flow, live music will dance on the wind, and wildflowers will be in full bloom. Whether you’re raising a glass to the ride, the land, or just the good fortune of getting your hands on a bottle, there’s no better way to spend a spring Saturday in Texas.

A Bourbon with a Purpose—and a Silent Auction

It would’ve been easy to slap Lady Bird Johnson’s name on a bottle and call it a day. But that’s not how Garrison Brothers does things.

Every bottle of Lady Bird Bourbon directly supports the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, ensuring that Texas remains as wild and beautiful as it was meant to be. Since its first release in 2023, over $67,000 has already been donated, and this year, that number will grow.

If you’re feeling lucky, The Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson Silent Auction will be live throughout the event, featuring exclusive prizes for those in attendance. Winners must be present to claim their prizes on April 5. So if you’ve got your eye on something, you better be there when the hammer drops.

Get It While You Can

After the April 5 release, the remaining 6,110 bottles of Lady Bird Bourbon will be available for purchase online in May and distributed to retailers, bars, and restaurants nationwide. But if you’ve ever had a Texas springtime pour of Lady Bird, you already know it’s worth the drive to Hye.

Mark your calendar. Bring your boots. And come see what a bourbon with roots can do.

Texas doesn’t do ordinary. And neither does Garrison Brothers.

Out in the West Texas desert, where the wind kicks up the dust and the horizon stretches forever, there’s a place that doesn’t make a lick of sense. It’s an oasis—cool, clear water bubbling up from underground, feeding the largest spring-fed pool in the world. We call it Balmorhea State Park. If you grew up […]

You’ve heard of Vegas, right? City of lights, luck, and legends. Well, last month, in the neon glow of the Las Vegas Global Spirit Awards, something big happened that left a mark far beyond the Strip. A small-town Texas distillery—you might’ve heard of us, Garrison Brothers—took home the title of “World’s Best Bourbon.” That’s right, […]
